<p><i>TV Girl’s 2014 debut!</i> During the height of chillwave, <strong>Brad Petering</strong> and <strong>Trung Ngo</strong> emerged from San Diego with a trilogy of self-described "hypnotic pop" EPs - <em>TV Girl</em>, <em>Benny and the Jetts</em>, and <em>Lonely Women - </em>as well as <em>The Wild, The Innocent, The TV Shuffle</em> mixtape. As the chillwave movement began to fade, Petering relocated to Los Angeles, where he began work alone on <a href="https://www.turntablelab.com/search?type=article%2Cpage%2Cproduct&q=TV+Girl" rel="noopener" target="_blank"><strong>TV Girl</strong></a>’s full-length debut, <em>French Exit</em>. The result is a dazzling concoction of retro samples overtop breaks, on which Petering ponders over romantic relationships, both former and hypothetical. The insanely catchy “Birds Don’t Sing” sees Petering lament over a breakup and his fear of goodbyes. “Hate Yourself,” a song about fleeting flings and low self esteem, juxtaposes its darker message with an upbeat piano motif and clangorous cowbells.
