Sade: Stronger Than Pride Vinyl LP
$32.95

Stronger Than Pride, the third album from Sade, saw the group continue in the same direction as their previous two releases. The group of bassist Paul S. Denman, keyboardist Andrew Hale, guitarist Stewart Matthewman and vocalist Sade Adu had already won over millions of fans and they seemed content to keep them happy. The album fluctuates between two speeds: the mid-tempo funk of cuts like "Turn My Back on You," "Paradise" and "Nothing Can Come Between Us," and the smooth ballads such as the title track, "Haunt Me" and the stirring "I Never Thought I'd See the Day." Adu's voice seems to add a layer of ambience to the songs, melting into the layers of instrumentation rather than sitting right out front. However, her presence remains strong throughout the album. Stronger Than Pride was evidence that Sade had plenty more to give after the success of their first two albums.

black vinyl pressing

includes printed insert

original release year: 1988

music label: Epic 2024

reviewed by Michu Meszaros 11/2014
