If you ever want to give the wood grain a shine, oil it with butcher block conditioner, beeswax, or any other food-safe wood treatment. If you cut (rather than tear) your challah, you’ll see scratches on the board. You can think of each line as a story. After some time, you could always sand the board lightly with a high grit and re-oil to refresh.
