<p><i><a href="https://www.turntablelab.com/search?type=product&q=Dan+Snaith" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Dan Snaith</strong></a>’s latest full-length as <a href="https://www.turntablelab.com/search?type=product&q=Daphni" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Daphni</strong></a></i> (his <a href="https://www.turntablelab.com/search?type=product&q=Caribou" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Caribou</strong></a> guise is on ice for more song-oriented, full-band endeavors) collects full versions of various tracks he teased on last year’s <em>Fabriclive 93</em> mix, which Snaith used to showcase then-unreleased <strong>Daphni</strong> productions, similar to <a href="https://www.turntablelab.com/search?type=product&q=Omar-S" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Omar-S</strong></a> and <strong>Ricardo Villalobos</strong>’ contributions to the series. The tracks on <em>Joli Mai</em> are bubbling with life, freeform arrangements of colorful analog synths and bass guitar licks are accented with wooden drums and soulful vocal snippets in vintage <strong>Daphni</strong> tradition. While most of the record is uplifting, “Xing Tian” and “Vulture” veer out towards a sinister edge. Other highlights include “Medellin,” “Face To Face,” “The Truth,” “Tin” and the very-<a href="https://www.turntablelab.com/search?type=product&q=daft+punk+discovery" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">2001 <strong>Daft Punk</strong></a>-esque closer, “Life’s What You Make It.” Double vinyl pressing in full-color pic sleeve with printed inner sleeves.</p> <ul> <li>double vinyl pressing</li> <li>printed inner sleeves</li> <li>music label: Jiaolong 2017</li> </ul> <h6>reviewed by frau farbissina 12/2017</h6>
